MK1 Escort Historic Rally Car

This MK1 Escort came to us as a restored rolling shell to be prepared for historic rallying. A dry build was to be carried out first, assembling and drilling holes and fitting brackets where needed, before going off to be painted.

Whilst the body shell is away being painted the rest of the components of the car are assembled. This includes a new wiring loom being made to complement the new dash and centre console with added switches and gauges. The engine was also sent for rebuild with a historic spec from SRD engines. All other components are stripped, checked, cleaned, powdercoated or replaced.

Now back from the painters the refit of the components can begin. The suspension and axle are fitted first to make the shell mobile again. The FIA spec rollcage is then put into place and the rest of the interior fittings and wiring are installed. FIA spec centre fuel tank is installed and the fuel lines fitted. Finally the engine, gearbox and exhaust system go on. Now the suspension geometry can be set and rolling road session booked.
